What affects the cost of replacing a misted double-glazed unit?

Understand why a sealed-unit repair needs a specification and survey before a provider can price the work.

The useful starting point

The unit size, glass specification, frame condition, access and fitting requirements affect a quote. Ask whether the quotation covers just the replacement unit or any related hardware and finishing work.

Size and glass specification

A provider needs accurate dimensions and information about the glass type. Coatings, pattern, safety requirements and thickness can affect which replacement is compatible.

Do not order from a rough tape measurement. The unit has to suit the frame and be measured and fitted using an appropriate method.

Frame and access

A survey should check whether the existing frame is sound and how the unit can be safely reached and replaced. Upper-floor access or a shaped opening may affect the job.

If the frame or hardware also needs work, establish whether that is included as a separate item. A low unit-only price may not describe the complete repair.

Compare written quotes

Ask each provider to state the unit specification, fitting scope, disposal, finishing and any applicable guarantee. Clarify how unexpected frame damage would be handled.

There is no reliable universal price for a misted pane without its measurements and specification. A survey and written quotation are more useful than a generic per-window estimate.
